The Chair of International Economics and Economic Theory was one of the first founded at the university in 1993. At that time the chair staff taught almost all subjects, except foreign languages, to the first-year students. Then, other chairs appeared and the functions of the chair became more limited. New chairs took over the responsibilities for teaching specialized subjects. Since 1996 the Chair provides basic economic training of students of economical and noneconomical specializations at the university. Since 2003 the Chair started training professionals in International Economics and changed its name for the Chair of International Economics and Economic Theory.
